Punjab Weather: Alert for dense fog along with rain across state, Gurdaspur coldest

In Punjab today (Thursday), people will face dense fog, light rain, and a cold wave on the first day of the new year. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in this regard. However, a slight increase of 0.2 degrees Celsius was recorded in both the minimum and maximum temperatures. Gurdaspur was the coldest with a temperature of 5.2 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, visibility was zero in Amritsar and Chandigarh, 10 meters in Ludhiana, 20 meters in Patiala, while visibility was less than 50 meters in Halwara, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Bathinda, and Ballowal Saunkri. This has affected air and rail traffic.

According to the Meteorological Department, a Western Disturbance is currently located over northern Pakistan and Afghanistan, which is active in the upper atmosphere. A long band of wind has formed in the middle levels of the atmosphere, which is likely to cause a change in the weather. Strong winds are blowing at higher altitudes in South Punjab and the surrounding areas.

The influence of upper air circulation also persists over North Haryana and its surrounding areas. Therefore, there is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in some areas of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, and SAS Nagar (Mohali) today.

Very dense fog is expected in some places in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Mansa, and Ludhiana. Cold day conditions are likely in some areas of Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, and Bathinda.

In addition, dense fog may be observed in some areas of Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Barnala, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Malerkotla. Light to moderate rainfall is possible in some areas of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar,

Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, and SAS Nagar (Mohali). Meanwhile, scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected in Tarn Taran, Faridkot, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, Mansa, and Sangrur.
