    Punjab Weather Alert: Rain & Thunderstorm Warning in 6 Districts, School and Office Timings Changed, Chandigarh Schools Closed

    Punjab: Punjab is expected to witness mixed weather over the upcoming days. Heatwave conditions continue across several parts of the state. Storms, thunderstorms and strong winds are likely in six districts of Punjab: Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, and Rupnagar. These districts may also experience light to moderate rainfall.

    Heatwave warning issued for Chandigarh’s 17 districts

    Meanwhile, a possibility of heatwaves at isolated places has been forecast for Chandigarh and 17 districts of the state: Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala and SAS Nagar (Mohali). The heatwave is expected to persist until May 28.
    On Friday, a change in weather conditions brought some relief to people from the scorching heat. Rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and the bordering districts led to a recorded drop of 3.4 degrees in the state’s temperature. It has now returned to near-normal levels. The maximum temperature of 44 degrees was recorded in Bathinda.
    Chandigarh schools Closed till June 30
    Separately, the Punjab government has revised the timings for government offices and schools in view of the heat. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that this decision was taken in light of the severe heat conditions. Meanwhile, schools in Chandigarh will remain closed from today until June 30.
