Punjab Weather: Temp near to normal; air quality deteriorates as pollution persists

Morning and evening chills have begun in Punjab and Chandigarh. However, temperatures won’t change significantly for the next seven days. Rain is also not expected. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain dry during this period. The average maximum temperature has dropped by 0.9 degrees in the last 24 hours, bringing it closer to normal. The highest temperature was recorded in Samrala at 35.9 degrees. Chandigarh recorded a temperature of 31.4 degrees.

Jalandhar’s air is the most polluted

According to the Meteorological Department, a Western Disturbance is becoming active, leading to some changes. Clouds are expected after November 6th. Meanwhile, stubble burning is affecting the air quality (AQI). Amritsar’s AQI was recorded at 102 at 6 am.

Similarly, Bathinda recorded an AQI of 99, Jalandhar 209, Khanna 190, Ludhiana 125, Mandi Gobindgarh 186, Patiala 142, and Rupnagar 136.

190 cases of stubble burning in 48 hours

A total of 933 cases of stubble burning have been registered in the state so far. 190 of these cases occurred on Monday and Tuesday. The highest number of notices were issued in Tarn Taran (79) and Ferozepur (73). A total of 302 FIRs have been filed. Red entries have been made in the land records of 337 farmers. Nodal officers have been deployed in 25 districts.
