Punjab Weather: Temperatures near normal, pollution levels drop ahead of winter chill

Temperatures in Punjab are currently near normal. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a cold wave will begin in December, and dense fog is expected in January and February. Additionally, nights in Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar will be colder than in Himachal.

Meanwhile, the wind direction has changed again in the past 24 hours. Cold winds are now blowing down from the mountains, which has reduced pollution levels. The minimum night temperature is expected to drop by about 2 degrees in the coming days.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), pollution levels in Punjab have improved. While the average Air Quality Index (AQI) had reached 226 three days ago after Diwali, it has now dropped to 161. This means a decrease of about 65 points in pollution levels in just three days.

Rupnagar is the only district in the state where the AQI has currently reached 230. Pollution levels have also decreased in Mandi Gobindgarh, with the AQI now at 200. Slow wind speeds in Rupnagar have created a “locked” air condition, leading to elevated pollution levels.

Temperatures will range from 23 to 34 degrees Celsius.

According to the Meteorological Department, during the last week of October, maximum temperatures in Punjab are expected to range from 26 to 30 degrees Celsius in the northern and eastern districts, 32 to 34 degrees Celsius in the southwestern parts, and 30 to 32 degrees Celsius in other areas.

Meanwhile, minimum temperatures are expected to range from 12 to 14 degrees Celsius in the northern and eastern districts, 10 to 12 degrees Celsius in Pathankot, and 14 to 16 degrees Celsius in the rest of the state. According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures will remain near normal throughout the state. The weather is expected to remain dry and clear during the week, with a slight chill in the nights.
