Chandigarh: The weather in Punjab and Chandigarh is changing rapidly. The day temperature is continuously decreasing. The day temperature on December 20 was about 2.6 degrees Celsius lower than that on December 19, and today the temperature is expected to remain around this level. Dense fog has been prevailing in most districts of the state since last night.

Impact of fog on road and air traffic

The dense fog has directly affected road and air traffic. On Saturday, two youths riding a motorcycle died in a road accident due to fog in Budhlada area of ​​Mansa district. They were returning to their village after shopping late at night.

Meanwhile, a truck and a passenger bus collided in Samalsar area of ​​Moga. The bus driver suffered injuries in both legs, while a passenger sitting in the front seat was also injured.

12 flights cancelled at Chandigarh airport

A total of 12 flights were cancelled at Chandigarh airport on Saturday due to fog. These included five incoming and seven outgoing flights. The cancelled flights included three flights each from Mumbai and Delhi, and IndiGo and Air India flights to Lucknow, Hyderabad and Leh. Flights from Delhi, Pune and Leh were also cancelled.

Weather forecast for the next five days

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain dry for the next few days, and the day temperature will continue to drop.

December 21: No weather warning, but light rain may occur at a few places in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur.

December 22: Light rain may occur at a few places in these districts, but there is no other warning.

December 23 to 25: A yellow alert has been issued for dense fog for three days for the entire state. Drivers and pedestrians have been advised to exercise caution.

Temperature conditions

The maximum temperature in Fazilka was recorded at 24.0 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 4.9 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Chandigarh was recorded at 11.6 degrees Celsius, while the maximum and minimum temperatures of the day in Ropar were recorded at 14.8 degrees Celsius.

Doctors say that the cold weather has increased the number of diseases.

Due to the cold and dry weather, the number of patients suffering from cold, cough, fever, sore throat and respiratory problems is continuously increasing. According to doctors, the lack of humidity in the air is making the nose, throat and skin more sensitive, which is increasing the risk of infection.

Experts have advised people to drink plenty of water, wear warm clothes, avoid dust and smoke, and use masks when necessary. The elderly, children, and people with pre-existing medical conditions have been urged to take special precautions.
