Punjab Weather Update: Yellow alert for Rain by IMD, Beas River Flood Risk

A yellow alert has been issued for rain in Punjab today as well. This alert is for 3 districts adjoining Himachal Pradesh, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar. Rain with strong winds is expected in these districts. Similar weather is expected till August 19. At the same time, the weather will remain normal in other districts.

According to the Meteorological Center, after the rain in some districts of the state yesterday, there has been an increase of 4 degrees in temperature. However, it remains close to normal. From morning to evening, 1 mm of rain has been seen in Bathinda, 7.5 mm in Hoshiarpur and 5 mm in Ropar. While the temperature of Amritsar was 31.2 degrees, 34 degrees in Ludhiana, 33.8 degrees in Patiala, 33 degrees in Bathinda.

Water level of rivers increased, worries of people living on the banks increased

Due to the strong flow of Beas river in Mukerian, a crack has appeared in Dhanova bridge, which connects Mukerian to Gurdaspur. The administration has deployed police on the bridge for security and has banned the movement of heavy vehicles. 2 lakh cusecs of water is expected to arrive in Pong Dam by night, due to which the water level may increase further. This bridge was built in 2016 during the Badal government.

Due to continuous release of water from Pong Dam, water has started filling in the low-lying areas of Sri Hargobindpur Sahib area. People of many villages are migrating to safer places. The holy form of Guru Sahib was also taken to a safe place from Gurdwara village Fatta. About 100-200 acres of crops have been submerged. The villagers have demanded from the government that Dhussi Dam should be built on the banks of Beas, so that the damage to crops and houses every year can be avoided.

Patiala – There will be light clouds, there are chances of rain as well. The temperature can remain between 26 to 30 degrees.

Mohali – There will be light clouds, there are chances of rain as well. The temperature can remain between 25 to 30 degrees.
