No rain alert in Punjab for 5 days; 23,300 cusecs of water released from Pong Dam

No alert has been issued regarding rain in Punjab today. The weather is expected to remain normal for the next five days from today. The weather will change again from August 12, and there is an alert for heavy rain on this day. At the same time, the Water Resources Department has released about 23,300 cusecs of water from Pong Dam at 5 pm on Wednesday.

The Water Resources Department says that the discharge has been done in a completely controlled manner, and there is no need for any kind of panic. Rakesh Gupta, Chief Engineer of Pong (Beas) Dam, said that at present, the inflow of water in the dam has exceeded 1.90 lakh cusecs.

Out of this, about 4 thousand cusecs of water has been released through spill-way gates and 19 thousand 300 cusecs of water has been released through turbines. The water level of the dam is currently 1 thousand 373 feet, which is 17 feet below the danger mark.

The impact of the water released from Pong Dam will be seen mainly in Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar districts, as these districts are located on the banks of the Beas river. Apart from this, there may be some impact in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala and Tarn Taran districts as well.

Hoshiarpur DC Ashika Jain said that this water drainage is part of the regular process done by BBMB every year during monsoon, and there is no emergency in the district.

She said that the district administration is in constant touch with BBMB and the situation is being closely monitored. However, as a precaution, SDMs of Mukerian and Dasuya subdivisions have been instructed to remain alert and keep a special watch on those villages which were affected by waterlogging in previous years.

Slight increase in temperature recorded

Pocket rain was seen in some areas of Punjab on Wednesday. But most of the districts remained without rain. Due to which a slight increase in temperature has been seen. The average maximum temperature of the state increased by 1.8 degrees, but it remains close to normal. The hottest area of the state was Samrala in Ludhiana, where the temperature was recorded at 36.6 degrees.

Apart from this, the temperature was recorded at 34.5 degrees in Amritsar, 33.6 degrees in Ludhiana, 33.1 degrees in Patiala, 34.2 degrees in Faridkot. 13.7 mm of rain was also recorded in Patiala.

Weather will change again from August 12

The weather is expected to remain normal in Punjab from today for the next 5 days. Rain is expected in some areas, especially the districts adjoining Himachal Pradesh. While many districts will remain dry in the state. Actually, the monsoon is going to remain sluggish in the state for a few days. On August 12, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain in the state.
