Chandigarh: The southwest monsoon has once again become active in Punjab, bringing rainfall to several parts of the state. Pathankot and Jalandhar received rain since Saturday morning, providing relief from humid weather and leading to a drop in temperatures.

According to the Meteorological Department, Kapurthala recorded the highest rainfall of 40 mm in the last 24 hours, while several other districts also witnessed light to moderate showers.

Rainfall recorded in several Punjab districts

Light to moderate rainfall was recorded across different parts of Punjab during the past 24 hours, with thunderstorms and strong winds reported in some areas.

The highest rainfall figures include:

• Kapurthala: 40.0 mm
• Pathankot: 30.0 mm
• Bhakra Dam (Rupnagar): 26.5 mm
• Amritsar: 20.6 mm
• Faridkot: 16.0 mm
• Gurdaspur: 15.0 mm
• Hoshiarpur: 11.0 mm

The weather department has forecast light to moderate rain in several parts of Punjab on Saturday. Rain activity may reduce on July 26 but is expected to intensify again from July 27.

Orange alert issued for Punjab and Chandigarh

The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Punjab and Chandigarh on July 28 and 29.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue across many parts of the state on July 30 as well.

Authorities have warned that continuous rainfall may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas of Punjab and urban parts of Chandigarh. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during bad weather conditions.

Temperature remains near normal despite rise

According to the weather department, the average maximum temperature in Punjab increased by 2.5°C in the last 24 hours, although temperatures remain close to normal.

Faridkot recorded the highest temperature at 36.5°C, while Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 36°C.

Pathankot recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Punjab at 23.6°C, whereas Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 26.2°C.

Chandigarh rainfall remains below normal

Chandigarh has received 249 mm rainfall since June 1, which is around 30.8 per cent below normal levels.

With fresh rainfall activity expected in the coming days, the weather department has advised people to stay updated with forecasts and avoid unnecessary movement during severe weather conditions.
