Punjab Weather Update: Water level rises in Pong dam, alert issued in six districts

The weather in Punjab is normal today, and no alert has been issued. However, a slight change in the weather is expected tomorrow, i.e., on Tuesday. The monsoon remained weak in the past days, due to which a slight increase in temperature has been recorded.

According to the report of the Chandigarh Center of the India Meteorological Department, the average maximum temperature of the state has increased by 1.4 degrees Celsius, although the temperature remains close to normal.

The highest temperature of 35.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at Bhakra Dam Station in Nangal, while Amritsar recorded 34.5°C and Patiala recorded 34.8°C.

Talking about rain, light rain has been recorded in Patiala, Pathankot, and Mohali. Meanwhile, the Bhakra Dam Management Board has issued a warning regarding opening of flood gates, due to which the surrounding areas have been advised to remain alert.

Bhakra Dam flood gates can be opened

According to the information given by BBMB, due to continuous heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, flood gates of Bhakra Dam can be opened. The administration has been advised to remain alert. If the flood gates are opened, it can have a direct impact on 6 districts of Punjab – Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Ropar, Nawanshahr and Ferozepur. People of these areas need to be extremely cautious.

The water level in Bhakra is continuously increasing. On August 1, 1623.47 feet was recorded in Bhakra. Whereas last year this level was 1608.6 feet.

Water level rising in Pong Dam

The water level in Pong Dam is continuously increasing. The full water filling of Pong Dam is 1400 feet. An increase of 4.19 feet was seen here in 24 hours. On the morning of August 3, the water level here was recorded at 1365.26 feet. Due to which more water is being released from here.

Rainfall forecast for the next 5 days

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected in many districts of Punjab for the next five days:

August 4: Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur are likely to receive more rain, while areas like Bathinda, Mansa and Fazilka will remain dry.

August 5: The scope of rain may increase. Yellow alert has been issued in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar. While light to moderate rain is expected in Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Patiala, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Nawanshahr etc.

August 6-8: No alert has been issued regarding rain. Light rain will be seen in some districts.

August 9: Yellow alert has been issued once again in the state. Rain will be seen in many districts.

Amritsar – There will be light clouds, there is also a possibility of rain. The temperature can remain between 26 to 33 degrees.

Jalandhar – There will be light clouds, there is also a possibility of rain. The temperature can remain between 26 to 33 degrees.

Ludhiana – There will be light clouds, there is also a possibility of rain. The temperature can remain between 26 to 34 degrees.

Patiala – There will be light clouds, there is also a possibility of rain. The temperature can remain between 26 to 31 degrees.

Mohali – There will be light clouds, there is also a possibility of rain. The temperature can remain between 24 to 32 degrees.
