Punjab Weather Update: Yellow alert in 4 districts adjoining Himachal, water level rises in dams

In Punjab today, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, and Mohali districts, which are adjacent to Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected in these areas, while light or normal rain is expected in the remaining districts till Wednesday.

There was sporadic rain in some places until Monday evening, and light clouds remained at many places, resulting in a slight change in the weather. The maximum temperature of the state has dropped by an average of 0.6 degrees,

However, the temperature remains close to normal. The highest temperature was recorded at 35.5 degrees in Amritsar, while Ludhiana had 34 degrees and Patiala had a temperature of 33.3 degrees Celsius.

The water level of dams is rising rapidly due to the water in Himachal

The rain in Himachal Pradesh is also affecting the dams. By 6 am on 04 August 2025, the water level was found to be increased in the major dams built on the Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers.

Bhakra Dam

The maximum water level of Bhakra Dam on Satluj River is 1685 feet and its total storage capacity is 5.918 million acre feet (MAF). Currently its water level is recorded at 1631.16 feet with water content of 3.951 MAF, which is about 66.76 percent of the total capacity. Last year on the same date its water level was 1611.4 feet and storage was 3.361 MAF.

Pong Dam

The maximum water level of Pong Dam on Beas River is 1400 feet and total storage capacity is 6.127 MAF. Today its water level was 1366.68 feet and water content was 4.204 MAF, which is 68.61 percent of the total capacity. Last year on the same date its water level was 1331.74 feet and storage was 2.61 MAF.

Thein Dam

The Thein Dam built on the Ravi River is a dam with a full water filling capacity of 1731.98 feet and a total storage capacity of 2.663 MAF. On the morning of 04 August 2025, its water level was 1691.41 feet and the amount of water was 1.950 MAF, which is 73.23 percent of the total capacity. Last year on the same day, its water level was 1619.17 feet and storage was 1.062 MAF.

Patiala- Light clouds will remain, there are also chances of rain. The temperature can remain between 26 to 31 degrees.

Mohali- There will be light clouds, there is also a possibility of rain. The temperature can remain between 24 to 32 degrees.
