Rain alert in 7 districts of Punjab today: 8 districts affected by floods

Amritsar, August 24: There is a possibility of rain in 7 districts of Punjab today – Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar and Mohali. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for these districts. At the same time, there has not been much change in the water level of the dams. But the situation is still bad due to waterlogging in Tarn Taran and surrounding districts.

According to Saturday’s data, the water level of Pong Dam was recorded at 1382.75 feet. The inflow of water here was 38,395 cusecs, while the outflow was much higher at 74,427 cusecs.

The water level in Bhakra Dam was measured at 1666.96 feet. The inflow of water in it was 54,870 cusecs, while the discharge was 43,342 cusecs.

The water level of the pond at Harike Headworks was recorded at 688 feet. 1,46,120 cusecs of water reached here from above. Out of this, 8,037 cusecs were given to Ferozepur feeder, 13,795 cusecs to Rajasthan feeder and 187 cusecs to Makhu canal. 1,24,101 cusecs of water was released downstream. Due to which the situation has worsened from Tarn Taran to Fazilka. At the same time, the situation remains critical due to floods in Amritsar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Moga areas.

Recorded drop in temperature

Some districts of Punjab witnessed rain today. Ludhiana received 10.4 mm, Amritsar 0.6 mm, Hoshiarpur 1 mm, Pathankot 3.5 mm and Ropar 0.5 mm of rain. After which the temperature of the state has dropped by 1.6 degrees. However, this temperature remains close to normal.

The alert will remain in force in the state for the next 72 hours

Today, a rain alert has been issued in 7 districts of Punjab. But for the next two days also a yellow alert has been issued for rain in the state. Whereas from 27th August, the monsoon seems to be weakening again. On 25th August, Monday, a yellow alert will continue for rain in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar of the state. Whereas similar conditions will prevail on 26th August, Tuesday.
