Punjab Women Commission Takes Suo Motu Notice Of Sukhpal Khaira’s Alleged Derogatory Remarks

Mohali: The Punjab State Women Commission has taken suo motu notice of alleged derogatory remarks made by Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira about women.

Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill strongly criticised Khaira’s comments, saying the language used about women—referring to them as “dancing ladies”—was disrespectful and reflected arrogance. She said the remarks hurt the dignity of women who were simply celebrating small moments of joy.

Gill stated that many women celebrating and dancing understand the value of small amounts of money and happiness, unlike leaders who may only be familiar with “happiness worth crores.” She added that such remarks are unacceptable in public life.

The commission chairperson said that within the legal framework, an FIR should be registered against Khaira for using derogatory language about women. She also wrote to Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, urging the party to take disciplinary action against Khaira and consider expelling him for indiscipline.
