Chandigarh: The burning of stubble by farmers is a major concern for the Punjab government as it is believed the main cause of pollution and environmental degradation. While incidents of stubble burning are causing environmental degradation, farmers explain this as a matter of helplessness. Farmers who don’t receive any fund or help to clear off the field are forced to set ablaze the stubble.
The Punjab Government has been making every effort to contain the number of stubble burning incidents. Many programs have been launched by the Punjab Government to ensure that farmers do not burn stubble. At the same time, the government is making machinery available in the villages for the disposal of stubble.
If we talk about the cases of stubble burning in Punjab, then this year a total of 188 cases of stubble burning have been reported till now. The number looks promising as it is significantly low in comparison to past years. For the same time last year, 656 cases were reported in 2023, while 415 cases were reported in the year 2022.
Punjab Pollution Control Board said that the government should urge farmers not to burn stubble and provide them with required machinery on time.
On Friday, 8 new cases were confirmed in Amritsar, while one case was confirmed in Patiala of stubble burning. Has come to the fore. In comparison, 95 cases were reported in the state on the same day last year and 65 cases were reported on October 4, 2022.
