Seven police officers in Punjab, including two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), have been suspended for allegedly allowing a television interview with notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi while he was in custody at the Kharar CIA station.
Bishnoi is implicated in the murder case of singer Sidhu Moosewala and is also considered a conspirator in the murder of Baba Siddique in Mumbai. Additionally, the Canadian government has accused him of being involved in the June 2023 murder of Hardeep Nijjar as an “agent of India.”
The Punjab Home Department issued suspension orders on Friday for DSPs Gursher Singh Sandhu and Sammer Vaneet, as well as for Sub-Inspectors Reena, Jagatpal Jangu, and Shaganjit Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Mukhtiar Singh, and Head Constable Om Parkash.
In March 2023, two interviews with Lawrence Bishnoi were broadcast by a TV channel while he was under custody of both the Punjab and Rajasthan Police.
