Jalandhar, June 12: Under the Punjab Government’s decisive war against drugs, namely “Yudh Nashian Virudh”, launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate the drug menace from the state, the campaign has completed 103 days today.

Under this unique initiative, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, led by Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, have arrested 577 drug smugglers and recovered massive drug consignments in 410 cases. These recoveries included 50.150 kg of poppy husk, 24.935 kg of heroin, 1.161 kg of charas, 3.720 kg of ganja, 9,668 capsules/pills, drug money worth ₹3,30,700, six pistols, and 14 cartridges.

Divulging the details, the CP said that the continuous crackdown against drug peddlers across the city has yielded promising results with massive recoveries and arrests. All these efforts were made to realize the vision of a Rangla Punjab as envisioned by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, she said, reiterating Jalandhar Police Commissionerate’s commitment to completely wiping out the drug menace from the city.

Giving more information, the CP said that in order to dismantle the financial network of drug peddlers, the police authorities have also assisted the civil administration in demolishing illegal structures/encroachments raised by drug smugglers, specifically using drug money. Over ten such structures have been demolished by the civil administration with police assistance. Likewise, around 11 proclaimed offenders have been nabbed successfully by the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate under this campaign.

The CP said that with the state government enforcing a three-pronged strategy—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to eradicate drugs from the state, the Commissionerate Police, as part of the ‘De-addiction’ effort, has convinced 258 persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment during Yudh Nashian Virudh between March 1, 2025, and June 11, 2025.
