Punjab: Property of smugglers worth Rs 200 crore seizes

The police and revenue department officials will work together to end the business of drug abuse in the state.

Chandigarh: A special campaign is being run by the police against drug abuse in Punjab. This campaign is being run under the supervision of senior officers at Chandigarh headquarters. In this, drug hotspot areas are being covered. In one year, the police have arrested 356 big drug smugglers in the whole of Punjab.

The process of identifying and confiscating the property made by 250 people from an illegal drug business has started. This claim was made by Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla. He said that till now, property worth Rs 200 crore belonging to drug smugglers has been confiscated.

Now the police and revenue department officials will work together to end the cycle of drug abuse in the state. For this, the government has issued orders. As soon as a drug smuggler is caught by the police, the revenue department will provide a record of his property to the police based on initiative. Then the police will start the process of confiscating his property within seven days.

Apart from this, the police are also focusing on the border between Punjab and Pakistan. The police have started a project to install cameras there. It will cost twenty crore rupees. In the first phase, cameras will be installed at 575 places in the villages of Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, and Amritsar. However, village defence committees are already working.
