Action Against Corruption Punjab Vigilance Arrest ASI Raj Kumar Bathinda Bribe Case
Bathinda, July 1: Taking a major action against corruption in Bhucho Mandi of Bathinda district, the Vigilance Department has arrested ASI Raj Kumar posted in the DSP office red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
Raj Kumar is accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 5 lakh in exchange for removing the name of former village head of Kalyan Kulwinder Singh Kindra and his two sons from a case registered against them. Later, the deal was settled for Rs 2 lakh.
The case is related to an FIR registered by the Nathana police on May 20, which was termed as false by the former sarpanch’s wife Paramjit Kaur. She complained about this to SSP Bathinda, after which the investigation was handed over to DSP Ravinder Singh.
Troubled by the bribe demand, Paramjit Kaur contacted the vigilance department, after which the team laid a trap and caught ASI Raj Kumar while receiving Rs 1 lakh. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
Vigilance caught him near DSP office by setting a trap
The vigilance department decided to lay a trap based on the complaint. As per the plan, on Tuesday, Paramjit Kaur reached the DSP office located in the women’s police station of Bathinda with the first instalment of Rs 1 lakh.
As soon as Assistant Sub Inspector Rajkumar took one lakh rupees in cash from Paramjit Kaur and put it in his car, the Vigilance team stationed nearby took immediate action and arrested Rajkumar on the spot. The bribe amount has also been recovered from him.
DSP is also under investigation, and interrogation is going on
Vigilance department officials said that a case has been registered against the accused assistant reader under the Anti-Corruption Act and further investigation is underway. Officials also clarified that if during the investigation, DSP Bhucho Mandi Ravinder Singh’s role in this case is revealed, then strict action will be taken against him as per the rules.
