Advocate Gagan Bedi has been elected as the Vice President of the District Bar Association Ludhiana after the polling held on Friday. Advocate Bedi bagged 993 votes followed by Advocate Anil Saggar with 779 votes and Advocate Sukhwinder Bhatia with 509 votes.
Besides, Advocate Himanshu Walia has been elected as Secretary, Advocate Mayank Chopra as the Finance Secretary and Advocate Rachin Soni as Joint Secretary.
Meanwhile, the votes of the candidates contesting for the post of President have also been counted but officially the returning officer Advocate Lokesh Batta has not announced the winner. He stated that as an inquiry is pending against one of the candidates contesting for the post of President, the result for this post will not be declared as of now.
He said that the counting of votes of candidates contested for the post of executive members will be held on Saturday.
However, from the advocates it has been learnt that Advocate Vipin Saggar was leading in the contest for the post of President of DBA Ludhiana.
Earlier, the RO had disqualified advocate Vipin Saggar from contesting election for the post of president after receiving a complaint against him for allegedly violating the Bar Council rules. After this move, there was widespread resentment among the lawyers and later a special committee of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana had set aside the order of the RO and had reinstated the candidature of the advocate.
There were total 35 candidates who were contesting for various posts including six candidates contesting for the post of president, six for the vice president, four for the post of secretary, three for the post of finance secretary, three for joint secretary and 13 for the post of executive members.
