Chandigarh: After 21 days of coaching, Rishi Mittal, who lives in New Lal Bagh Colony of Patiala, had filed a complaint against a renowned Career Institute of the city for deficiency in service and unfair trade practices and for not returning the fees after leaving the class due to dissatisfaction with the teaching methods. After hearing the facts and arguments, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission directed the coaching institute to pay 20 thousand rupees to the petitioner for mental harassment and case expenses. The commission has also been directed to return 72 thousand 67 rupees from the fee deposited by the complainant as admission with 9 per cent interest per annum.
Rishi Mittal, who lives in the New Lal Bagh Colony of Patiala, had filed a complaint with the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission against a famous career institute in the city. The petitioner stated in his complaint that he had enrolled his son Aditya Agarwal on April 11, 2019, for one year of coaching in the non-medical stream of class 11.
The Career Institute said in a written reply filed with the Commission that as per the terms and conditions of admission, the complainant is not entitled to a refund of fees. Out of the amount received from them, Rs 15,864 has been paid as GST. After studying in the coaching for several days, they cannot be held responsible for the complainant’s mistake.
The Commission said that in the complaint filed on behalf of the complainant, it was stated that his son attended the coaching institute for studies for 21 days. Apart from this, the complainant’s son was given study material worth Rs 10,000 by the coaching. In such a situation, the complainant is considered entitled to Rs 72,067.
