Gurdaspur: In a disturbing case that sent shochwaves across Punjab, a 22 year old woman has allegedly died following a forced abortion after being raped by a pastor, Jashan Gill. the case early similar to the recently concluded Bajinder Singh rape case, has sparked public outrage and demands for justice.
The victim’s father, in an emotional plea to the media, alleged that Pastor Jashan Gill raped his daughter in 2023. After the girl became pregnant, he claimed, Gill coerced her into undergoing an abortion performed by an “undertrained” nurse, Satinderjeet Kaur alias Babli. The careless procedure allegedly led to a fatal infection, resulting in her death at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar.
The grieving father stated:
“I want justice for my daughter.. Punjab Police did nothing. I demand a CBI inquiry into the incident. I have also approached the High Court demanding a CBI Inquiry.”
According to Police, a case has been registered against both the pastor and the nurse, and a search operation was launched. However, no arrests have been made yet. The victim’s father expressed deep frustration over the police’s inaction and alleged that Gill is being protected.
“The Police have not arrested Jashan Gill. He roams freely, and the police take money from him. I was threatened, and i had to leave the village.” he told the reporters.
This horrifying incident has resurfaced following the sentencing of Pastor Bajinder Singh to life imprisonment in another rape case just days ago. Activists and legal experts are now questioning the police’s handling of such sensitive cases, especially involving religious leaders.
