Chandigarh: Cabinet Minister of Punjab Government Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal today made a surprise visit to Ajnala Sugar Mill. During this, he took stock of the ongoing procurement process and the problems of the farmers in the sugarcane season. Talking openly with the mill officials and farmers, he assured that the government will take concrete steps to increase the capacity of the sugar mill and modernize it.

Minister Dhaliwal said that the capacity of Ajnala Sugar Mill will be increased and new machinery will be installed in it. This will not cause any problem in the supply of sugarcane and will promote sugarcane cultivation in the area. He informed that earlier the capacity of sugar mills of Batala and Gurdaspur has also been increased. Discussions have been held with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in this direction and this project will be completed soon.

In a meeting with the farmers, Dhaliwal assured that the government is solving their problems on priority basis. He said that crushing of sugarcane is going on smoothly in the sugar mill and the farmers are also being paid for their crops on time. Dhaliwal also said that the quality of sugar being produced by the sugar mills of Punjab is the best in the entire state. He urged the farmers to keep faith in the government and promote farming in a cooperative spirit.

Criticism of the Central Government

Minister Dhaliwal targeted the central government and said that the legitimate demands of the farmers have not been accepted yet. He said that the treasury which should have been opened for the farmers and the food providers of the country has been opened for industrialists like Ambani and Adani. The result of this is that the condition of the farmers is continuously deteriorating.

Government’s support with farmers

Expressing sympathy towards the dharnas and demonstrations of the farmers, he said that this situation has arisen due to the stubborn attitude of the central government. Dhaliwal has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk to the farmers and immediately implement their pending demands.
