All about your constituency: Will 2024 be a gamechanger as AAP, Congress, and BJP put their best foot forward in SAD’s fortress Bathinda

The stage is set for a gripping electoral showdown, with each party vying for the trust of Bathinda's electorate in pursuit of victory.

Since its inception in 1952, the Bathinda Lok Sabha seat has emerged as a quintessential battleground, witnessing the rise and fall of political titans. Notably, the Shiromani Akali Dal has etched its name in the annals of history, clinching victory a remarkable 11 times out of 17.

Bathinda, known for largest cotton and food grain market in the north part of the country and thriving in the education sector in state is prominent Lok Sabha constituency of Punjab.

As Punjab gears up for a four-cornered battle, Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency becomes the focal point of intense political maneuvering. AAP has thrown its hat into the ring with the nomination of current Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal may rally behind the incumbent MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, known for her consistent victories since 2009. Congress and BJP are in talks, with Congress considering Balkaur Singh, father of the late singer Sidhu Moosewala, to contest, while BJP eyes Parampal Kaur, a former bureaucrat and daughter-in-law of senior Akali leader Sikander Maluke. The stage is set for a gripping electoral showdown, with each party vying for the trust of Bathinda’s electorate in pursuit of victory.

2019

Maintaining their strength hold, Shiromani Akali Dal acclaimed the Bathinda seat fourth time in a row. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, candidate of SAD won the seat by winning 4,90,811 votes. She defeated Amarinder Singh Raja Warring of INC by margin of nearly 21 thousand votes as the latter received 4,69,412 in his favour. Baljinder Kaur of Aam Aadmi party stood third as she got 1,34,398 votes in the election.

Following the win of Harsimrat Badal from Bathinda seat, she was given place in the cabinet of Modi Government but later resigned in 2020 to protest against the three agricultural ordinances

2014

In 2014, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, became member of parliament for the second time by winning record number of votes. In the 2014 mandate, she won the seat by winning 5,14,727 votes. At second place was Manpreet Singh Badal of Indian National Congress who got 4,95,332 votes. Jasraj Singh Longia from Aam Aadmi Party remained at third place by winning 87,901 votes.

2009

In 2009 elections, Harsimrat Kaur Badal became MP from Bathinda for the first time. She defeated her Congress rival Raninder Singh by winning record 5,29,472 votes which accounts for 50.5 percent of vote share. Raninder Singh of INC won 4,08,524 votes and remained at second place by huge difference of over 1 lakh votes. Contender from BSP Nem Chand gained just 35,094 votes.

2004

In the 2004 elections, Paramjit Kaur Gulshan of SAD registered victory by winning 3,23,394 votes.  Communist Party Of India candidate Kaushalya Chaman Bhaura stood second with a total of 260752 votes. She lost the Bathinda seat by 62642 votes.

It should be noted that since 2004, SAD has never faced defeat on Bathinda Seat. For the straight 4 terms, Bathinda is dominated by SAD and under the control of the Badal family.
