Ludhiana: All petrol pumps are completely closed in Ludhiana, Punjab, today on Sunday. Only emergency services are running. The Petrol Pump Dealers Association (PPDA) has protested by keeping the pumps closed today against the Central Government for not increasing the commission. They have decided that to reduce their expenses, they will keep the petrol pumps closed every Sunday.

The pump owners say that their commission has not been increased in the last 7 years. They are working on 2 per cent commission, while they demand that 5 per cent commission should be given. The association is also discussing at the district level to keep petrol pumps closed every Sunday in the entire Punjab from August 25.

Pradhan Ranjit Singh Gandhi said that the commission of all traders increases, but the commission of petrol pump owners has not been increased for the last 7 years. Today the goods of Rs 80 have reached Rs 120, but the government is silent on increasing the commission of oil sellers.

At present, petrol pumps from Khanna to Phillaur will remain closed today. Letters are also coming from many cities in support of keeping petrol pumps closed. Banners have been put up at petrol pumps so that people can also know how bad the situation of petrol pump owners is going through.

Even 5 months ago, petrol pump owners had gone on strike by not buying oil. At that time the central government had assured that their commission would be increased after the elections, but now the government is again ignoring them.

Gandhi said that emergency services will remain operational on weekly holidays. Ambulances and government vehicles will be given petrol or diesel. At present, a meeting has been held at the district level. Soon there will be meetings at the Punjab level and state level so that the commission of petrol pump owners can be increased.
