Chandigarh: Yesterday, on Friday, farmers tried to gherao the CM House in Chandigarh in protest against the improper purchase of paddy in Punjab. A large number of farmers reached Sector-35 Kisan Bhawan. After this, the police closed the gates of Kisan Bhawan. But today the protesting farmers will have a meeting with Punjab CM.
A few days ago, a meeting was held in Chandigarh under the banner of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha and Arhtiya Association on behalf of the farmers. In this meeting, a strategy for the struggle was made. They had announced that if paddy is not purchased in the mandis, then they will surround the CM residence in Chandigarh. Under this decision, farmers were coming to Chandigarh on Friday.
Punjab Police had also stopped them at many places. Apart from this, Chandigarh Police had also detained some farmer leaders. Due to this the farmer leaders got more angry.
The Punjab government had also started efforts from Friday morning to avoid the farmers’ protest. The meeting of farmers with CM Mann will be held today at 4pm.
