Amid students ongoing protest against VC, Punjab Govt seeks report from registrar of RGNUL

Girl students also alleged that the Vice Chancellor made comments about their dressing sense.

Patiala: After more than 50 hours, the state government finally woke up and reacted to the protest of girls students in Patiala over a sudden inspection by the Vice Chancellor which invaded their privacy.  Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has taken cognizance of the matter. Let us tell you that girl students of Rajiv Gandhi National Law University Patiala (RGNUL) launched a protest against the Vice Chancellor after the sudden inspection of girls’ hostel. Girl students also alleged that the Vice Chancellor made comments about their dressing sense.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has summoned a report from the university registrar in this regard. He also assured students that justice will be done to them.

In a post on X, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said,”The Department of Higher Education has summoned a report from the Registrar of RGNLU, Patiala, regarding the ongoing student protests. I assure the students that justice will be done.

On the other hand, former Union Ministers Shashi Tharoor and Karuna Nandi have also reacted on this matter. They said that this matter should be investigated. Until the investigation is completed, the VC should be removed from the post.

Amid the protest of students outside the residence of the Vice Chancellor, the institution announced the closure until further notice. The students have been demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor.
