New Delhi: Amrit Pal Singh, elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Khadoor Sahib in the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls, faced an unusual situation as he is in jail during both the election campaigning and oath taking ceremony.
Now he is seeking permission from Speaker Om Birla to participate in the upcoming monsoon session. For this Singh, wrote a letter asserting his desire to fulfill his parliamentary duties despite his incarceration. His plea underscores the complexities of governance and representation amidst legal challenges. The speaker’s decision will likely hinge on parliamentary rules and the legal status of Singh’s imprisonment, balancing the priciples of democracy with legal accountability.
