Amritsar: DC Sakshi issues instructions for plantation in offices

In view of the monsoon, Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney has instructed all departmental heads to mark places for plantation in offices. On Tuesday, she said that the best way to reduce heat is to plant trees.

The Deputy Commissioner clarified that under the tree conservation policy, trees cannot be cut even from non-forest land without the permission of the SDM. She identified those areas of the district through satellite heat map, where the effect of heat is more.

Mia Walky technology will be used to plant more plants in less space. 5 plants will be planted on each tubular in parking lots, petrol pumps, educational institutions and residential colonies. Tree plantation will also be done on the boundaries of the fields.

Instructions to collect data of survival rate of plants

The Deputy Commissioner instructed to collect data of survival rate of plants planted last year. She said that tree plantation and their conservation is necessary to control the rising temperature. He described it as a virtuous act done voluntarily rather than a government duty.

The Miyawaki technique is a method developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, by which dense, indigenous forests are prepared in a short time. In this, a variety of indigenous tree and shrub species are planted very close to each other, which mimics the natural forest ecosystem.

This technique promotes rapid growth, increased biodiversity and better soil quality.
