Amritsar: Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney held a joint meeting with Medical Officers, Improvement Trust and PUDA officials and held a discussion regarding the cleanliness of the city. Keeping in view of the garbage problem, she gave strict orders to agencies like Improvement Trust and PUDA apart from the Municipal Corporation to start cleaning operations in the zones under their jurisdiction.
Understanding the current problem, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the garbage collection agency in the city to increase the number of garbage collection vehicles from 110 to 200. She said that special vehicles would be introduced to segregate dry and wet waste and new bio-remediation machines would be provided to Bhagatwala dumps.
She clarified that if any agency or contractor violates the order, legal action will be taken against him, while the cleanliness system in the city will be brought back on track.
She said that the city, where nearly one lakh tourists come from outside every day, needs more resources to keep it clean and work on it. The Deputy Commissioner said that keeping in mind the immense potential of Amritsar city as well as religious pilgrims, its cleanliness should be on time.
The Deputy Commissioner told the District Health Officer Municipal Corporation Dr. Kiran Kumar that he should review the cleanliness arrangements under his supervision and the cleanliness of the city should be done daily. On this occasion, apart from Axial Mr. Sandeep Singh, other officers were also present.
