Amritsar, April 19: In a major crackdown against narco-financing, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has arrested two individuals, including a police constable posted in Ludhiana, for their alleged involvement in a narco-hawala network. Authorities seized Rs. 46.91 lakh in cash, suspected to be part of an International hawala transaction routed through Dubai.
The busted racket is linked to a drug cartel operated by US-based smuggler Joban Kaler and gangster Gopi Chogawan, both natives of Amritsar Rural.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Chheharta Police Station, and investigations are ongoing to trace both backward and forward linkages of the network.
Police officials confirmed that efforts are underway to follow the money trail, recover additional hawala funds, and expose the full ecosystem facilitating drug trafficking operations in the region.
