Amritsar Police demolishes illegal houses of two drug smugglers

Intensifying the campaign against drugs in Punjab, the Amritsar Rural Police carried out a major operation on Thursday.

Amritsar, May 22: Intensifying the campaign against drugs in Punjab, the Amritsar Rural Police carried out a major operation on Thursday. The police demolished the illegal houses built by two notorious drug smugglers Jagpreet Singh alias Jaga and Satnam Singh by occupying the government pond in Thana Jandiala area in Amritsar.

According to SSP Rural Maninder Singh, both had illegally occupied government land (chhappad) in village Dharad and built houses. Several serious cases under NDPS Act are registered against both of them. Several cases of drug smuggling are registered against Jagpreet Singh, while four cases under NDPS Act are pending against Satnam Singh. Both these accused are currently lodged in jail.

Continuous action is being taken

SSP said that this is the 5th such action of Amritsar Rural Police in which illegal properties of drug smugglers have been demolished. Police is now not limited to only arrests, but property acquired from the drug trade is also being identified and seized.

Properties will be inspected

The police is now also investigating where the other properties that these smugglers have made from the drug business are and action will be taken against them soon. The SSP said that now the youth are becoming aware against drugs themselves. Many youths who were earlier addicted to drugs are now voluntarily enrolling in de-addiction centers, which is a sign of a positive change. So far, more than 50 cases have been registered by Amritsar Rural Police under the Excise Act, which shows their strictness against drugs.
