Amritsar, July 11: An encounter took place between the police and drug smugglers in the Gate Hakima area of Amritsar. The police retaliated and caught the smuggler in an injured condition. The accused has been sent to the hospital for treatment. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar will soon give detailed information in this case.
The incident took place in Dana Mandi under Thana Gate Hakima. The police had set up a check post here for security. Meanwhile, a drug smuggler arrived on the spot on a bike. The police tried to stop him, but he started firing. The accused was injured in the retaliatory firing and was caught.
The injured smuggler has been identified as Bikramjit Singh, resident of Bhakna. Police is engaged in further investigation.
There was firing on the police near Gharinda too
This accused is wanted in many cases earlier also. A few months ago, the police had fired on the police in Neshta village under Gharinda. During this time also the police had set up a check post and when an attempt was made to stop the accused, he opened fire on the police. A passerby died in this. The police had caught an accused in this case only last month. Now the police has been successful in catching the accused Bikramjit Singh as well.
