Asking Gursikh girl to remove her Kirapn is violation of constitution: SGPC Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami

He added that strict legal action should be taken against the officials of the examination center who prevented the Gursikh girl Advocate Armanjot Kaur from judicial examination with Kirpan.

Amritsar: Taking strong notice of the news that a Gursikh girl who appeared for the Rajasthan Judicial Competitive Examination conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission on June 23 at a center in Jodhpur was asked to remove her Sikh kirpan and was not allowed to enter the examination, Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee President Advocate.

Harjinder Singh Dhami said that this is a big violation of the country’s constitution. He added that strict legal action should be taken against the officials of the examination center who prevented the Gursikh girl Advocate Armanjot Kaur from judicial examination with Kirpan.

A case came to the fore where a Gursikh Amritdhari girl named Armanjot Kaur was not allowed to enter the examination hall because she was wearing Kirpan.

Dhami said that according to the Constitution of India, Sikhs have full right to wear Kirpan and according to Sikh Rehita Miyara, no Amritdhari Sikh can separate the five Sikh marks from his body.

He added Sikh candidates have been particularly targeted in the country for some time now and there have been frequent incidents of devout Sikhs being asked to remove their religious symbols and denied admission to competitive exams for protesting.

Shomani Committee president termed this phenomenon as a big discrimination against the Sikhs in his own country India and said to give all kind of support to the Gursikh girl.

He said, “discrimination against the Sikh candidates hurts their mentality, because by doing such criminal behavior with the candidates before the paper, the performance in the paper is affected. Despite everyone knowing that the Kirpan is a part of the five virtues of Sikhs and it is also an expression of Sikh identity, fundamental rights, still treating Sikhs with hatred is highly reprehensible.”

Advocate Dhami demanded the Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma of Ras Jathan government to intervene in this matter immediately and asked him to take strict action against the guilty officials who prevented the Sikh girl from entering the judicial paper.

What is the matter?

Baljit Singh, the father of the Gursikh girl resident of Jalandhar, informed the Shiromani Committee that his daughter had gone to Jodhpur today to appear for the competitive examination for the Rajasthan Judicial Services, where the officials of the examination center asked her to remove the kirpan for admission in the examination center but the girl was a Sikh and she protested against this and did not remove the kirpan. Following this, the girl couldn’t appear for the examination.
