Chandigarh : Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C said that the use of loud speakers has been banned from 10 pm to 6 am without prior written permission.
He has asked all the political workers engaged in election campaigning to show badge or identity card and to fully follow the vehicle rules during election campaigning and on election day.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that the unofficial identity cards issued to voters should be on plain (white) paper and should not have any party symbol and name or candidate’s name on it.
He also asked the political parties to refrain from cash transactions and carrying large amounts of cash to maintain the transparency of the elections. He said that disturbing the meetings and processions of other parties is prohibited and propaganda materials should not be displayed near the polling booths.
Sibin C said that demonstrations or dharnas outside private residences are also prohibited and police assistance should be sought against any disruption of political meetings.
According to Section 127 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, any person who disturbs the atmosphere in a public meeting shall be liable to imprisonment for six months, a fine which may extend to two thousand rupees or both.
