Bathinda, June 27: A 35-year-old man drowned in Lake No. 2 on Goniana Road late Thursday evening. The deceased was reportedly naked at the time of the incident, prompting authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
Rescue operation led by Sahara Life Saving Brigade and the NDRF
As soon as information was received, Sandeep Gill, Deepak Thakur, and Vicky Kumar from Sahara Jan Seva’s Life Saving Brigade rushed to the spot. The NDRF team also arrived around 8 PM on Thursday and joined the search efforts.
Despite working through the night, initial efforts to locate the body were unsuccessful.
Body recovered after a prolonged night-long operation
The operation resumed at 4 pm, Friday by the Sahara team, with NDRF joining again at 8 AM. After a joint rescue effort, the body was finally retrieved from the lake.
Sandeep Gill, Sahara team spokesperson, confirmed that the deceased was respectfully wrapped and shifted to the hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Police investigation underway to identify the deceased
Sukhwinder Singh, in charge of the Thermal plant police station, said that the identity of the deceased is yet to be established. Police are currently investigating the case to determine the cause and nature of the incident.
