Chandigarh: The Transport Department has taken a big action in Punjab. In a big move, permits of nearly 600 buses have been cancelled. Reportedly, these permits were issued illegally and thus action has been taken by the Punjab government. Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that all this happened during the Akali Dal government from 2007 to 2017 and then the Congress government. He added that many big transporters are involved in this. He also took the names of some transporters. At the same time, he said that about 30 percent of permits issued during former Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal have been cancelled, which were illegal.
The Transport Minister said that the government has taken this action after a thorough investigation. This decision will benefit small transporters. They will be able to run their buses again. There was illegal clubbing in the permits that were cancelled. Due to this, the government was also losing revenue. Almost all the transporters of the state are happy with this decision.
Many cases of illegal permits were reaching the Punjab and Haryana High Court. In such a situation, the government has taken this matter seriously. One of the main objectives of this action is to end the monopoly of big bus operators and stop irregularities in the transport sector.
Teams have been formed for this. Also, the action will continue further. Apart from this, rules should be followed in government buses. Action is also being taken to stop oil theft and other things. The government is trying that the people of the state do not have to face any problem at any level.
