Chandigarh, July 25: Arrested in a disproportionate assets case, SAD leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia’s bail plea and demand for change of barrack in jail were heard in Mohali court today (July 25).
The government has filed its reply on the bail petition, but it will now be debated on July 30 at 10 am. At present, Majithia has not received any relief from the court.
Majithia’s lawyer, Arshdeep Singh Kaler, said that two petitions were filed in the court. In the last hearing, the court had sought a report from the ADGP Jail, which was submitted in a sealed cover today. The government appealed to consider it a confidential document, which the court made a part of the file.
The lawyers had asked for a copy of this report, which they have received. The petition related to changing the barracks will be debated on August 2. Majithia is currently in judicial custody till August 2 and today marks one month since his arrest.
Today we will get a statement made against Majithia
Majithia’s lawyers Arshdeep Singh Kaler and Dambir Singh Sobti said in a press conference in Chandigarh that the challan has not been presented yet in the case registered against Majithia in 2021. The government does not have any concrete evidence. The government also has nothing in the disproportionate assets case. Now preparations are being made to register a third case.
Vigilance has not been able to gather any solid evidence so far. Now facts are being forcibly created. We will demand live streaming of the investigation of the entire case from the court. The lawyers also mentioned the names of some people who have no dealings with Vigilance, but are now investigating them. These include a retired CBI officer from Delhi and others.
The companies linked to Majithia in the disproportionate assets case also did not stand the scrutiny. Lawyers named two people who were picked up from their homes. When their families approached the High Court, they were released. They are being pressured to give statements against Majithia.
Also, they have said that otherwise they will trap him in a drug case. Even today, an attempt will be made to forcibly record the statement of a person in the court. Preparations have been made for that too. That SIM card will also be linked to him.
One month of arrest
Vigilance arrested Majithia on June 25. So far, under the case registered in 2021 during the Congress government, statements of a total of 6 people, including the then DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay, former Deputy Director of ED, former PA of Majithia, have been recorded.
Raids have been conducted in Punjab, Himachal, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and his properties have been investigated. The government claims that the case is very strong, while Majithia’s lawyers say that the case has no substance. They allege that the government makes big claims in the media, but its lawyers back off in the court.
