BJP to contest Lok Sabha elections alone in Punjab: Sunil Jakhar

Chandigarh: Ending all speculations on the alliance of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the Lok Sabha elections, BJP Punjab President Sunil Jakhar has made it clear that BJP will contest the elections alone in Punjab.

He posted a video message on his X handle along with which he said, “BJP to contest the Lok Sabha elections alone in Punjab.”

In the video message, Sunil Jakhar said, “On the advice of people, Leader and workers of the party it has been decided that BJP will contest Lok sabha elections alone in the state.” He added that Decision is taken for the betterment of the state along with the bright future of people of different classes in society.

Boasting the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government in the Centre, he said it is not hidden from anyone how BJP government under the leadership of PM Modi has worked for Punjab.

He said timely payment to farmers directly in their bank accounts, procurement of farmers’ produce at the MSP and Kartarpur Sahib Corridor which was a long-held demand of Sikh community were fulfilled by the centre government under the leadership of PM Modi.

Showing faith in the people of Punjab, Jahkar said that to maintain peace in the border areas and overall development of the state, people of Punjab will vote for BJP on the June 1.

BJP-SAD alliance ruled out

After the announcement that BJP will contest Lok Sabha elections alone, it is said that SAD and BJP couldn’t reach a consensus on seat-sharing in the state. Reportedly SAD offered 4 seats out of 13 to BJP whereas BJP has sought more seats given the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP and SAD fought last Lok Sabha elections together. SAD came out of the alliance in year 2020 following the now scrapped three agricultural laws.
