BSF shot Pakistani intruder in Punjab’s Ferozepur on intervening night of May 7-8: Sources

As India advanced its counter-terror efforts through Operation Sindoor, Pakistan once again drew global outrage with a brutal attack on civilians.

Ferozepur, May 8: As India advanced its counter-terror efforts through Operation Sindoor, Pakistan once again drew global outrage with a brutal attack on civilians. On the night of May 7, Pakistan launched indiscriminate firing and mortar shelling on villages near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, killing at least 13 innocent civilians, including women and children, and leaving dozens injured. Several of the injured remain in critical condition, and relief operations are ongoing, although fear and tension continue to grip the region.

In a separate incident, the Border Security Force (BSF) neutralised a Pakistani intruder in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector during the intervening night of May 7–8. The individual was spotted attempting to cross the International Border under the cover of darkness and was challenged and fired upon by alert BSF personnel. His body was recovered and handed over to local police at dawn.

Defence experts have interpreted the LoC attack as a desperate and provocative move by Pakistan, unnerved by the success of India’s precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, which had earlier targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Experts further emphasised that Pakistan’s actions not only violate the ceasefire agreement but also breach international human rights norms.

The Indian government has strongly condemned the shelling as a cowardly and barbaric act, urging the international community to hold Pakistan accountable.

Meanwhile, border infiltration attempts continue. Earlier this week, on Sunday, BSF personnel apprehended a Pakistani national, identified as Muhammad Hussain, in Punjab’s Gurdaspur sector. He was found in possession of a Pakistan National Identity Card and local currency, and was handed over to Punjab Police for further investigation.

In another case, a Pakistani Ranger was detained in Rajasthan after attempting to cross the border. Preliminary investigations suggest he may have been involved in reconnaissance or espionage activities. Interrogation is still underway.
