Buses to not run in Punjab till 12 noon today; Demand to make contractual employees permanent

If the government does not accept their demands, then the operation of government buses will be completely stopped in the whole of Punjab from April 7 to April 9.

Buses of PUNBUS, Punjab Roadways and PRTC will not run in Punjab today. All the employees will block the buses from 10 am to 12 noon to demand their demands. Their main demand is to make the temporary employees permanent. If the government does not accept their demands, then the operation of government buses will be completely stopped in the whole of Punjab from April 7 to April 9.

Employees of Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC have been demanding to make their jobs permanent and increase their salary for a long time. Employees say that the government gave assurances many times, but no concrete decision has been taken yet.

According to the officials of Punjab Roadways Contract Workers Union, they are neither being made permanent nor their salary is being increased. For the last several years, the government is only given assurances. Now they have decided that if the demands are not met, the operation of buses will be completely stopped for three days.

How many buses will be affected?

Government buses in Punjab are operated under three major transport organisations:

PRTC (Pepsu Road Transport Corporation) – 1,142 buses 704 owned buses 438 hired buses
Punjab Roadways and Punbus – more than 2,000 buses

With the stoppage of these buses, lakhs of passengers may face difficulties. Especially school children, working people and those travelling in rural areas will face more difficulties.
