Terrorist Lakhbir’s mother, sister and brother-in-law arrests in Jalandhar

Ransom was demanded of Rs 2 crore from a businessman, and gangster Yadvinder's family was also arrested.

Jalandhar: In the case of demanding a ransom of Rs 2 crore from a businessman living in the posh area of Model Town in Jalandhar, Punjab, the police have arrested six members of the family of terrorist Lakhbir Singh Landa and his associate. The police arrested Lakhbir Singh’s mother Parminder Kaur, sister Jaspal Kaur, constable brother-in-law Ranjot Singh, his associate Yadvinder’s mother Baljeet Kaur, father Jaikar Singh, and sister Husnpreet Kaur. All of them were medically examined at Jalandhar Civil Hospital.

The police produced all the accused in court and took them on a one-day remand. Apart from the details related to their bank accounts, the police also seized their mobile phones, etc.

The police had sought a two-day remand for all of them from the court. But after the arguments of the defence lawyers, the court sent everyone on one-day remand.

Different teams of Jalandhar Commissionerate Police reached the house of the accused on Thursday, and after a raid that lasted for several hours, all were arrested.

Let us tell you that in the last 10 days, two cases have been registered in different police stations in Jalandhar against Canada-based terrorist Lakhbir Singh and his accomplice Yadvinder Singh. The first case was registered at Basti Bawa Khel police station, and the second case was registered at Division Number Six police station.

Extortion was demanded from the owners of Kohli Private Limited, who do business in the Leather Complex, Jalandhar. In this case, Jalandhar Police arrested three henchmen of terrorist Lakhbir Singh. These included Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi of Tarn Taran, Jagroop Singh Jupa, and Bhupinder Singh alias Bunty of Hoshiarpur.

The police registered a case against the three accused under UAPA.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma claimed that the police have strong evidence from the accused that they were in touch with Lakhbir Singh. According to the police, during interrogation, the accused also confessed to targeting some prominent businessmen in the city.

While the police were investigating these three further, another businessman in the city received another ransom call.

Terrorist Lakhbir Landa, based in Canada, is a resident of Kirian village in the Harike area of Tarn Taran district in Punjab. He fled to Canada in 2017, fearing the police. After reaching Canada, he started doing criminal activities like extortion and carrying out attacks in Punjab. After this, he came into contact with terrorist Harvinder Singh Rinda, based in Pakistan, and joined the banned terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

According to the police, Lakhbir Singh is involved in drug and arms smuggling, besides forming terrorist modules and extorting ransom in Punjab and the rest of the country. Several criminal cases related to murder, attempted murder, extortion, drug trafficking, kidnapping, and illegal weapons are registered against him in different police stations in Punjab.
