Chandigarh-Ambala rail track to be upgraded, preparations to increase the speed of trains

French railway team SNCF had surveyed this section and suggested that to increase the speed of trains, it is necessary to upgrade the track first.

Chandigarh: With an aim to speed up train travel between Chandigarh and Ambala, the Railway Board has started the first phase of track upgradation. In this phase, the tracks of platform number 1 and 2 will be replaced from the railway station to the yard.

According to the information, the French railway team SNCF had surveyed this section and suggested that to increase the speed of trains, it is necessary to upgrade the track first.

Officials say that due to the existing 52 kg per meter track, the maximum speed of trains is limited to 90-100 km per hour. This new track arrangement is likely to increase the speed, which will reduce the travel time for passengers. The track changing work will be done in a phased manner, so that there is minimum impact on train operations.

Due to construction work at Chandimandir railway station, the track will be closed for 10 hours on November 19. During this time, Shatabdi train (12011-12) running between Kalka-Chandigarh-New Delhi will remain cancelled. Apart from this, Kalka-Bhiwani Express (14795-96) and Kalka-Ambala Passenger (04569-70) will also not run between Chandigarh and Kalka.

According to railway officials, this work will not only increase safety for passengers but will also prove to help improve speed
