The inauguration of Chandigarh Carnival 2024 was held today by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Mr. Gulab Chand Kataria, in the presence of Mr. Kuldeep Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh, Mr. Rajeev Verma, Advisor to the Administrator, Ms. Hargunjeet Kaur, Secretary of Tourism, and other officials from the Chandigarh Administration. The Administrator flagged off the carnival parade, which showcased floats created by students of the Chandigarh Arts College, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the festive spirit and explore vibrant exhibition stalls while interacting with artists from various cities.
Government departments displayed initiatives promoting government schemes from the Indian government, products from various government societies of the Union Territory, and traffic awareness initiatives through their exhibition stalls. This unique blend of cultural festivities and informational displays highlighted the carnival’s commitment to providing a diverse experience for attendees. Live painting sessions were also part of the carnival.
Visitors can enjoy cuisines from different regions at the food stalls and experience thrilling rides in the entertainment park. For the first time, the Chandigarh Carnival has brought together persons with disabilities, their families, caregivers, civil society organizations, policymakers, and the people of Chandigarh. This year’s carnival features new characters such as Aladdin and the Genie as major attractions.
Additionally, the hop-on-hop-off bus service is offering free rides to everyone during the three-day carnival. A spectacular live performance by the renowned singer Satinder Sartaj is scheduled for the evening of October 25, followed by a performance by singer Mohammad Irfan on October 27.
