Chandigarh, June 21: In Chandigarh, a doctor couple beat their adopted 10-year-old girl with a stick. A video of cruelty to the girl has surfaced. According to the information, this video is from Shimla on 14 May. The doctor’s family lives in Sector 15 of Chandigarh. In the video, the girl is being beaten with a stick and she is screaming in pain.
The matter was complained to Child Helpline 1098, Chandigarh Administration, Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma and Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, after which Social Welfare Secretary Anuradha Chagathi has ordered the Child Helpline to investigate.
Doctor couple is in Chandigarh PGI
According to the information, the doctor couple is in PGI Chandigarh and they had adopted the girl when she was 3 months old. On May 14, the whole family had gone to Shimla, where the girl was beaten up. This video has been recorded by a neighbor.
The parents were presented before the committee and were directed to appear on 24 June
The girl admitted before the committee that she was beaten up. But the girl wants to stay with her parents. On the other hand, the doctor couple also admitted to the beating and said that the video is of the lady doctor’s ancestral house in Shimla. The lady’s brother’s family also lives there. The video is said to be of 14 June.
The CWC has directed the girl and her parents to appear again on June 24. Along with this, the police have also been directed to register an FIR and call for a report from the school regarding the girl’s studies and behaviour. Based on the school report and information received from the neighbours, the girl will be counselled and further action will be decided.
Child Rights Protection Commission took cognizance
Chandigarh Child Rights Protection Commission Chairperson Shipra Bansal has taken cognizance of the incident. She has summoned a report from the concerned departments and officials and has made it clear that necessary action will be taken after reviewing all the facts.
