In Sector 38, Chandigarh, some miscreants opened fire while attacking and freeing their accomplice from police custody and escaped.
It is being told that in Sector-38, car riders opened fire on police personnel, which happened on police personnel standing at the checkpoint. Constable Pradeep of Police Station 39 had set up a checkpoint outside EWS Colony of Sector 38A. When the constable signaled a white Maruti car coming at a high speed to stop on suspicion, the driver fled the spot. At some distance, he threw a person out of the car, whom Pradeep caught.
Meanwhile, the car driver returned and tried to crush the constable with his car to free his accomplice. Senior Constable Deep of the District Crime Cell, who was present at the spot, helped Pradeep and both of them caught the driver.
On being caught, the accused took out a pistol from the car and started firing. He fired four bullets, one of which hit Deep. Deep managed to escape the bullet by falling down, but in the meantime both the accused escaped from police custody.
The police have started investigating the case. Police officials said that the accused may have come to the colony in connection with drug smuggling, as the accused has been caught in several drug cases in this colony of Sector 38A earlier. Along with this, the links of the accused with other gangsters are also being investigated.
