Former Punjab SAD MLA arrested in Chandigarh for brandishing pistol in market

Former MLA Jasjit Singh Banni has a long history of controversies.

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police have arrested former Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Jasjit Singh Banni of Punjab. He was waving a pistol late at night outside Sector 8 Community Center. After receiving a complaint about this, the police reached the spot.

Jasjit Singh is the son of former Punjab minister Captain Kamaljit Singh. He contested the election from the Kharar assembly constituency for the first time in 2007 but faced defeat. After this, he contested from Banur assembly constituency in 2009 after the death of his father.

Former MLA Jasjit Singh Banni has a long history of controversies. In 2018, a case was registered against him for sexual harassment and hurting the dignity of a woman in a salon. He had gone to the salon for a head massage. It is alleged that he had molested the receptionist. The woman had told me that Jasmeet was drunk. He was sentenced in this case in 2023.

A case of assault on retired ASI Prakash Chand of Punjab Police was also registered against Bunny in November 2016. In this case, charges were framed against Bunny in court under sections 341 (trespass), 325 (causing hurt), and 506 (threatening) of the IPC. For many years, the police did not even file a charge sheet in that case.
