In a Diwali Bonanza for residents, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has eliminated the requirement for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for plot registration.

In a recent announcement, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria for approving the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation (Amendment) Act, 2024, which removes the NOC requirement for land deed registrations. The Punjab Assembly had previously approved the bill on September 3, and the Governor enacted it today.

Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the amendment seeks to impose stricter regulations on illegal colonies while providing relief to small plot holders. He noted that this decision represents a significant benefit for the general public, addressing the challenges they face in registering their plots and curbing the spread of unauthorized colonies. The Chief Minister emphasized that the amendment includes penalties and punishments for offenders, marking a historic step toward ensuring the welfare of citizens.

According to the amendment, individuals who enter into a power of attorney, agreement to sell on stamp paper, or other related documents for areas up to 500 square yards in unauthorized colonies before July 31, 2024, will not need an NOC to register their land. He highlighted that illegal colonizers have profited at the expense of innocent people, who suffer due to their actions.

Mann pointed out that the rise of illegal colonies occurred during previous governments, which supported these colonizers. This new act is intended to provide much-needed relief to the millions who unknowingly invested in unauthorized colonies, allowing them to build homes without facing legal hurdles.
