Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will visit Mohali today. During this, he will inaugurate the City Surveillance System and Traffic Management System (Phase-1) installed at a cost of Rs 8 crore. After the launch of this system, all the roads of Mohali will be under police surveillance. Also, e-challans of traffic rule violators will start being issued on the lines of Chandigarh. After this, the Chief Minister will attend a program at Sukhmani Institute of Medical Science and Research, Derabassi.
Control room has been set up in the police station
For proper monitoring of this system, a control room has been set up in the new building of Sohana Police Station located in Sector-79, Mohali, where 24-hour monitoring will be done. In the first phase, this system will be installed at 20 major junctions/places of the city. A spokesperson of Punjab Police Housing Corporation said that Punjab Police has also received the necessary funds for this project.
Although this system has now formally started, but in just two days it exposed the violation of traffic rules in the city. According to the report, about 36,000 people were caught on camera breaking traffic rules.
The interesting thing was that when the system was being installed, its batteries were stolen from many places. At present, this system has been implemented in the first phase, but when the entire city will be covered, the situation will become more clear.
