Punjab assembly speaker urges PM to address dispute over Haryana Gallantry awards

He raises the issue of reconsidering the names sent.

Chandigarh: The controversy over the names of police officers sent by Haryana Police for gallantry awards has deepened. Farmer organizations were already protesting in this matter. At the same time, now Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has written a letter to PM Narendra Modi in this matter.

Punjab Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that the names sent by the Haryana Police for gallantry awards should be reconsidered. Because these officers had stopped the farmers protesting at the Shambhu border from going to Delhi. He has written in the letter that before taking any decision, the situation on the Punjab-Haryana border in Shambhu should be kept in mind.

Sandhwan has written in the letter that he supports the demands of the farmers. Recently, the Haryana Director General of Police has condemned and expressed deep concern over the recommendation of giving bravery awards to six police officers and employees involved in stopping the farmers’ march at the Shambhu border. At the same time, in the letter, he congratulated the PM for forming the new government. Also wished him good health.

Farmers have been agitating since 13 February 2024, demanding a legal guarantee of MSP for crops. During this, Haryana Police closed the Shambhu and Khanauri borders by putting up barricades. During this, the police also fired tear gas shells at them. Many farmers were injured, while farmer Shubhkaran died. This matter is still deepened. At the same time, farmers are still standing on the border.
