A 40-year-old man, Rajkumar from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, died of COVID-19 in Chandigarh on Wednesday. He was undergoing treatment at Government Medical College, Sector 32, after being referred from Ludhiana.
According to the hospital, Rajkumar had been experiencing severe breathing problems for the past three days and had developed a fever after reaching Ludhiana.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases are gradually increasing in Haryana. On Tuesday, 16 new cases were reported, raising concern among health authorities. Currently, the state has 13 active cases, with 3 fresh infections—1 in Faridabad and 2 in Gurugram.
In response, Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini has called an urgent health department meeting at the Secretariat in Chandigarh. Health Minister Aarti Rao and Additional Chief Secretary Sudhir Rajpal will also attend to discuss preventive strategies.
The Haryana government has issued a new advisory for hospitals, directing them to ensure availability of flu corners, dedicated beds, isolation wards, oxygen support, antibiotics, PPE kits, N-95 masks, VTMs, and testing reagents.
Special monitoring of high-risk individuals such as the elderly, pregnant women, children, and those with comorbidities has been recommended.
