Based on this input, the BSF personnel increased surveillance and kept a close watch on suspicious activities. Late night, the soldiers saw a suspicious drone activity near Hardo Ratan village. Immediately swung into action, the BSF personnel cordoned off the area and started a search operation. At present, the seized mobile is also being sent for forensic examination, so that necessary information can be obtained from its data.
During the search, the jawans recovered six packets of heroin (total weight 3.319 kg), two 30-bore pistols, and two smartphones. It is believed that this consignment was sent by Pakistan-based smugglers and efforts were being made to deliver it to Indian smugglers. However, due to the vigilance of the BSF, this conspiracy of the smugglers failed.
In the last few months, many cases of smuggling of narcotics, weapons and ammunition through drones have come to light in Punjab. Smugglers use drones on the Indo-Pak border to drop the consignment in Indian territory, which their associates later try to pick up.
Recently, the BSF has shot down many such drones in border districts like Ferozepur, Tarn Taran and Amritsar and recovered large quantities of weapons and narcotics.
